Panchakarma Center

Designing with Devotion

Crafting an authentic Ayurvedic ambiance

One fantastic thing about Kerala-inspired architecture is that it treats a building like a living thing. Just like our bodies need good circulation, Kerala designs also focus on improving airflow within the building. Thus, at the heart of our Panchakarma building’s design resides a profound dedication to wellness as we wholeheartedly embrace pure vintage South-Indian style architecture.

For example, when applying the Karna Soothram principle (ear-piercing) to architecture, we treated the roof as the building’s head and the side walls as ears and created holes in the walls which allowed fresh air to flow upwards because well-ventilated spaces are crucial for a treatment center where people seek recovery and rejuvenation. In addition to this, we were greatly influenced by two significant aspects of Kerala-style architecture: Thachu Shastra, the science of carpentry, and Vastu Shastra, the science of architecture and construction. These elements enabled us to incorporate intricate artwork, carvings, and Vastu alignment creating a treatment center that exudes an authentic serene ambiance.

Ethereal beauty of Kerala-style architecture

The Panchakarma treatment center has been sensitively designed drawing inspiration from historical-style architecture to craft an authentic space that provides gentle Ayurvedic treatments for the body, mind, and soul. As visitors enter, they are greeted by the exquisite Kerlian-style Padippura, a roofed gateway adorned with beautiful artwork.

Throughout the center, from the floor tiles to the staircases, railings, and doctors’ rooms known as kutirs, the aesthetic touch is evident creating a remarkable environment where people can relax, rejuvenate, and find healing. Great emphasis has been placed on incorporating nature into the design to ensure noise cancellation and enhance serenity. We used mud bricks instead of concrete blocks to make the building more sustainable, eco-friendly, and naturally cool.

All therapies are housed in Krishna Kutir, a seamlessly connected structure with a central courtyard, allowing patients to experience openness and avoid any sense of claustrophobia. Therefore, each and every detail of the treatment center has been meticulously crafted aiming to establish the pinnacle of a perfect healing space for visitors.

Sumeru follows a holistic approach to designing and constructing buildings that not only consider the functional needs of the space, but also prioritize the well-being of its occupants and the environment. The construction process emphasizes the use of locally found materials and sustainable practices to ensure that the building is resilient, long-lasting and conserves energy usage.

Furthermore, the design incorporates eco-friendly practices that respect and work with the five elements of nature, including earth, water, fire, air, and space to evoke sattvic vibes. We also draw inspiration from ancient architecture practices, using research and innovation to incorporate them into modern times. Honesty and integrity are key values upheld throughout the construction process, ensuring that the final product is not only beautiful but also ethical and sustainable.

Sumeru used the forces of nature and vastu principles to design Panchakarma which ensured a harmonious flow of the five elements. The result is not just a functional architecture but something beyond that. As clients, we were also impressed by their environmental awareness, diligent research, and most importantly, their honest and authentic approach to their work.

This retreat center sets a global standard, and its best feature is the absence of distractions. The place is simply elegant and artistic, surrounded by serene nature.  I found myself completely revitalized, with a detoxified body, a rested mind, and a rejuvenated soul. The elegant and artistic atmosphere combined with the serene nature surroundings makes it an enchanting and one-of-a-kind ambiance.
