Sri Sri School of Yoga

Inspiration

Designing with Devotion

Spirit of Yoga in construction

The construction of our Yoga school was inspired by the philosophy of Yoga which promotes a harmonious union and oneness of body, mind and spirit. Our goal was to construct a building that seamlessly blended with the natural landscape rather than altering or demolishing the existing contours, plateaus, and slopes.

We firmly believed that creating true harmony in Yoga began with the construction of the school itself. Our goal was to create an architectural design that would facilitate a profound connection and sense of oneness between the seeker and nature. We searched for ways to achieve this connection and foster a deep appreciation for the environment. Our inspiration stemmed from the use of locally sourced materials like mud, bricks, and stones just like in ancient Indian architectures. This choice embodied the ethos of Yoga and ensured that our building reflected the principles of Yoga in every aspect.

Crafting Yoga Environments

At the Yoga school project, we showcased our proficiency in rammed earth architecture technology which we employed to erect the walls of the yoga rooms. These spaces offer exceptional breathability and natural cooling in addition to robust stability as a result.

Instead of reshaping it, we capitalized on the natural contours of the land where the Yoga school is situated, thus creating an enchanting outdoor area beneath a grand, verdant tree where individuals can partake in yoga exercises.

The yoga facilities at the Sri Sri School of Yoga have been crafted with great care to details. Every effort was made to harmonize the five fundamental elements of nature, providing ample light, fresh air, and an abundance of greenery. For the ceiling in the Mantap area, a specially designed Lotus pattern was implemented to evoke tranquillity and foster self-connection among practitioners. In constructing the Patanjali garden, sturdy and handcrafted granite stones took precedence over excessive concrete usage. Collaborating with talented local artisans who possess extensive knowledge allowed us to create incredible structures using innovative techniques. The Yoga school as a whole serves as a classic design example of how ancient and organic elements can come together to create an ideal setting for practicing yoga.

Sumeru follows a holistic approach to designing and constructing buildings that not only consider the functional needs of the space, but also prioritize the well-being of its occupants and the environment. The construction process emphasizes the use of locally found materials and sustainable practices to ensure that the building is resilient, long-lasting and conserves energy usage.

Furthermore, the design incorporates eco-friendly practices that respect and work with the five elements of nature, including earth, water, fire, air, and space to evoke sattvic vibes. We also draw inspiration from ancient architecture practices, using research and innovation to incorporate them into modern times. Honesty and integrity are key values upheld throughout the construction process, ensuring that the final product is not only beautiful but also ethical and sustainable.
